You can't generalize people by their age.....

One of my biggest pet peeves is people who think everyone who is 20-28 have the same mindset and maturity level. I would get mad b/c people that thought Jim and I were crazy for being together because of our age difference. Yes... 15 yrs is significant, but I consider myself to act much older than 26 and Jim acts much younger than 41. Until you really know people you shouldn't judge or make assumptions.
1st Assumption:
--Kristi is dating Jim b/c he has money. FALSE
--Jim just likes partying so he wants someone young. FALSE--I'm not a party girl.
--Everything I own, Jim bought. FALSE. ( I bought my own damn tahoe, Thank you!)

I consider myself to be well educated, down to earth, very mature for my age, and I have a job where I make decent $--this allows me to buy MYSELF nice things.

Now that I cleared that up... Second issue I have came across... Work.

The older generation at LM thinks that all recent college grads and the 20-28 range are all the same. This is so far from the truth. I will admit there are many younger people I work with that make the rest of us look bad. I feel like now, the few of us that are hard working and don't expect handouts have to prove ourselves to our managers, directors, etc. Not all of us come out of school thinking we are better than the older generation and deserve more.
2nd Assumption:

--Recent grads want to come out of school making at least 75K and have a higher level/position. FALSE (believe it or not, most of us know we need to work our way up thru the corp. ladder)
--Younger generation thinks they know everything about their current job. FALSE. (most of us will admit we are learning and must communcate with the seasoned employees in order to learn all aspects of the job, program, corp, etc.
--If you don't give "them" the money and titles they want, they will leave. FALSE. (most people understand that the money comes with years and experience. We do not all walk in expecting to make more than our managers or co workers).

That is just a few things that have came up lately that really bother me. It only takes a few to make a whole group look bad. That is why at LM many people hesitate to work with or teach the new hires/recent grads. I think I have "proved" myself within my group that I am a little different then others when it comes to these issues, but I know this is still a major problem in the workplace.

People need to step back, assess the situation, and realize that they should be thankful for even having a job right now. What is the difference if you are not making the 75K you think you deserve, you will get there eventually but it takes patience and experience.
Key Note: Pissing off your managers/coworkers will not get you anywhere but farther away from your goals....

If you are going to do it.... Do it Big!

I recently took my first golf lesson. Yes, Kristi is trying golf. Jim plays golf ALOT to say the least and I wanted to have something we can do together and enjoy. So, I told Jim I would play IF and ONLY IF I had all Pink golf stuff. For my birthday, Jim bought me Pink and Gray Clubs and golf bag. And, you can't have pink clubs without pink balls..... so..... hot pink golf balls it is. ( Not to mention the pink golf tees.) Jim also purchased white and pink shoes.. but I ended up taking them back and getting some gray adidas. They are really cute. Not like any others that the "men" have. When playing golf, appearance is half of the game... hence the title... Do it Big. So now I have all my pink stuff and I'm ready to roll. I went to Hawk's Creek and had my first lesson with Bo. He is awesome. Bo is a very good teacher b/c he is so positive and has patience that doesn't end. I surprised myself, I actually did ALOT better than I thought I would. Then two days after my lesson, Jim and I went to Ridglea and practiced. I did ok, but not as good as I did with Bo. I hit about every other ball good.. but I guess Practice makes perfect.

So this summer, I am going to try to not only go to RCC for the pool and margaritas :) but also try to golf with Jim when I can. Wish me Luck!!!

Taste of the NFL... right around the corner!!!

So... yesterday I bought my tickets for the Taste of the NFL. This year it is April 19th so I'm counting down the days.

For those of you who don't know, I'm a HUGE Jason Witten Fan. He is an amazing football player and such a great guy in general. Last year, a co-worker (Kim) of mine went to this event. Witten was not on the roster of attendees so I didn't go. Sure enough, he was there. Not only was he there, Kim took numerous pictures with him and mingled with many of the players. I was SO jealous, so this year I'm in! Tickets were kind of expensive but all proceeds go to the North Texas Food Bank so it's ok.

Last fall I got to meet Witten at Ridgmar Mall. He signed my football and I took a picture with him. He is just flippin gorgeous!!! One of the most exciting days of my life!! ( Sadly.. that is not an exaggeration)
Also, the weekend before the ProBowl I bought his ProBowl jersey. I know, I know, I'm crazy but I got it really cheap! Was around 120.00 and I bought it for 35.00. WooHoo !! Now, I officially have EVERYTHING Witten; 2 Jerseys, 2 T-shirts, hat, football, trading cards, pictures, etc..... Gotta Support Witten and the Cowboys!
